So popular is Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte that some people want to elect her as president in the upcoming May 2022 polls.
The Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD) vice presidential bet had a funny banter with one such person Thursday, March 24 during her meet-and-greet with barangay health workers (BHW) and daycare workers at the Laguna Sports Complex Gymnasium.
The person, whom Mayor Sara referred to as "Ma'am Dorie", was lucky enough to be invited on stage to perform an impromptu duet with the presidential daughter. The song? "Luha" by Aegis.
In her rendition of the song, Dorie changed the lyrics into "Ikaw ay aming ihahalal/ iluluklok sa Malacañang (You're the one we will vote for/ and install in Malacañang)." The crowd cheered.
Mayor Sara instantly looked at Dorie flabbergasted and said, "Ma'am sandali ha, kasi pangulo yung sa Malacañang ma'am eh (Ma'am wait, but it's the president who goes to Malacañang."
"Gusto namin na ikaw yung maluklok eh (You're the one whom we want to install there)," replied Dorie.
"Sandali ma'am, vice president po ang tinatakbo natin ma'am ha (Wait ma'am, I'm running for vice president, ma'am)," Sara clarified as the audience laughed at her singing partner's confusion.
Restarting the song, Dorie once again changed the lyrics, but this them to Sara's specifications: "Ikaw ay aming ihahalal/ pangalawang pangulo ng bansang Pilipinas/ na aming minamahal (You're the one we will vote for/ as vice president of the Philippines/ the country that we love)."
The UniTeam candidate gamely sang the high notes afterward.
To conclude her speech at the gymnasium, Sara said: "Ako po si Sara Duterte, humihingi po ako ng suporta at tulong ninyo pagka-bise presidente ng ating bansa (I'm Sara Duterte, seeking your help in my bid to become vice president of the country).
"At Ma'am Dorie, ang opisina ko po ay hindi sa Malacañang Palace. Mag-aannounce po kami sa susunod kapag ako po ang napili, mag-aannounce, pa po kami kung saan mag-oopisina ang bise presidente kapag ako po ang napili ngayong halalan ng May 9, 2022 (And Ma'am Dorie, my office is not in Malacañang Palace. Next time, if ever I get chosen as the vice president in the May 9, 2022 polls, we'll announce where I would hold office)," she said.
Sara is the running mate of presidential candidate Bongbong Marcos. The two are consistent survey frontrunners.
