DENR distributes over P40-M assistance to its personnel in typhoon-hit areas
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has distributed P42.2 million worth of relief assistance to its personnel in typhoon-affected areas that include Palawan, Eastern Visayas, and Western Visayas.
Environment Acting Secretary Jim O. Sampulna handed over the checks to DENR officials of Region 8 (P34.2 million), Region 6 (P7.2 million), and Region 4B (P760,000) last March 21.
“This check speaks of the DENR’s valued commitment to push tirelessly for the welfare and benefits of its hardworking workforce, however long and challenging the waiting has been,” Sampulna said in a statement.
He also lauded the government for supporting the agency despite the country’s limited budget amid the threats of Covid-19 and the Russia and Ukraine crisis.
Sampulna added that this is the second assistance the agency received from the government following the latter’s release of P11 million worth of aid to DENR personnel affected by Typhoon “Sendong” last 2011.
Meanwhile, he assured that beneficiaries who no longer work for the department will still receive financial aid, including the relatives of the deceased.
