Comelec grants OVP, DSWD petitions


The Commission on Elections (Comelec) en banc has granted the petition for exception of the Office of the Vice President of certain projects and programs during the 45-day period of the campaign.

In a statement, Comelec Commissioner George Garcia said the petition was granted during an executive session Wednesday, March 23.

He said the petition for exception of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSED) during the 45 period of campaign was likewise approved by the En Banc.

Garcia said the en banc also denied, granted fully, or partially certain petitions of other agencies and local government unit’s nationwide.

In January, Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez said normally, exemptions to election bans can be granted on humanitarian grounds to see whether or not its really needed.

He cited how they granted exemption to disaster relief operations in the past.

"We've exempted typhoon relief operations. Mostly disaster relief in general," Jimenez said.

There will be a ban on the release, disbursement, or expenditures of public funds from March 25 until May 8.
