The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is eyeing the proclamation of the winning senators and party-lists in the May 9 polls in at least seven days.
"We are expecting for the national (positions) seven days. Hopefully, we can already proclaim the winning senators and partylists," Comelec Commissioner Marlon Casquejo said in a press briefing in Manila, Tuesday, March 22.
"For president and vice president it's up to Congress because they are the ones who will canvass the certificate of canvass (COCs) for the positions of president and vice president," he added.
As part of their preparations for the upcoming polls, the Comelec held yesterday a demonstration of the end-to-end Election Day Automated Election System (AES) for the 2022 National and Local Elections for local source code reviewers, stakeholders and media at the Diamond Hotel.
During the demonstration, the stakeholders were allowed to vote using the test ballots and feed it to the vote counting machines (VCMs).
They were also shown the process of transmission and canvassing.
At the end of the demo, Hollywood star Angelina Jolie emerged as the winning president while basketball superstar Stephen Curry won as vice president.
Comelec Commissioner George Garcia expressed hope that the success of the activity will be replicated in the actual polls.
“What transpired today which is a successful end to end transmission of the results hopefully it will be replicated," he said.
