Aksyon Demokratiko Chairman Ernest Ramel on Monday, March 21, said recovering the ₱328 billion worth of tax liabilities and ill-gotten wealth of the Marcos family will be hard should former senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr. win in the May polls.
Aside from the ₱203-billion estate taxes of the Marcos heirs, Ramel noted that there was a separate ₱125-billion worth of ill-gotten wealth.
"Let me also add if I may, what I'm afraid of, if Marcos luckily wins this election, we are not only losing ₱203 billion, and I'm assuming he won't ask his own BIR (Bureau of Internal Revenue) to collect from them," Ramel said in an interview with CNN Philippines' The Source.
"We are also losing another ₱125 billion from the PCGG cases under litigation right now," he added.
Ramel also stressed that the country continues to need a lot of money to survive the pandemic.
Aksyon Demokratiko standard bearer and Manila mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso had previously vowed to run after the P203-B Marcos tax debt.
He said he will use the proceeds from these tax debts to help Filipinos who were affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
