'Dirty tactics': Villar camp to probe fake Twitter account posing as Mark Villar

UniTeam Senate bet Mark Villar has clarified that the now-defunct @SecMarkVillar account on Twitter was a fake account impersonating him.

“This is to inform everyone that the Twitter account named "Mark Villar" (@SecMarkVillar) is fictitious and not my official account. It appears that the said fictitious account was created to sow divisiveness among the Uniteam supporters and tarnish my name and the Uniteam candidates,” Villar said in a Facebook statement posted on Sunday, March 20.

The now-defunct twitter account tweeted out “Walang solid north pero may solid Marikenos (There is no solid north but there are solid Marikenos)!”

The tweet seemed to be referring to a UniTeam rally held in Marikina City on Saturday, March 19.

Presidential bet Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. led the Marikina rally, which took place on the same date as the Commission on Elections (Comelec) presidential debate.

Villar then explained that his camp would file a complaint with cybercrime investigators.

“We condemn such dirty tactics. We shall file the necessary complaint with the cybercrime divisions of law enforcement agencies to hold accountable the person/s who are employing such unlawful and dirty tactics,” his statement continued.

The @SecMarkVillar account can no longer be found on Twitter, although tweets replying to the account can still be viewed on the site.

Villar is running for a Senate seat as part of the UniTeam’s slate led by Marcos Jr. and his running mate Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte.
