The Philippine National Police (PNP) filed on Friday, March 17, a criminal case against actor Kit Thompson for allegedly beating up his girlfriend, actress Ana Jalandoni.
PNP chief Gen. Dionardo Carlos said Thompson underwent inquest proceedings at the Tagaytay City Prosecutors Office hours after his arrest, and the rescue of Jalandoni inside a Tagaytay hotel.
Initial reports revealed that both the victim and suspect checked in at a hotel and had an altercation. It was then that Thompson allegedly beat up Jalandoni.
Police went to the hotel after the hotel staff notified the local police about the commotion inside their room. Before the police arrived, Jalandono had already sent photos of her to her friends whom he asked to seek assistance to rescue her.
A case for violation of Section 5 (a) of Republic Act 9262 or the Anti-Violence against Women and Children Act was filed.
“We will wait for the decision of the prosecutor based on his appreciation and evaluation of evidence presented. The PNP has gathered the necessary evidence and witness accounts in the course of its investigation,” said Carlos.
In a separate statement, PNP chief information officer Brig. Gen. Roderick Augustus Alba said they continue to monitor the condition of Jalandoni.
"We do not condone any act of violence, especially against women. As we celebrate the Women’s Month, we couldn’t stress enough the inherent role of the PNP to protect the rights of every woman in society," said Alba.
