Police arrested actor Kit Thompson for allegedly mauling and detaining his girlfriend, an actress, at a hotel in Tagaytay City on Friday, March 18, the Philippine National Police (PNP) confirmed.
Brig. Gen. Antonio Yarra, regional director of the Calabarzon Police Regional Office (PRO-4A), said the police rescued Thompson's girlfriend in their hotel room after the victim managed to call for help through the emergency hotline 911.
"Based on the statement of the victim, she had a misunderstanding with her boyfriend that resulted in physical violence. Allegedly, the suspect assaulted and punched the victim on different parts of her body," Yarra said.
The police did not identify Thompson's girlfriend although social media posts of the actor showed that he has been in a relationship with a budding actress, Ana Jalandoni. They reportedly made public their relationship in December 2021.
The victim also allegedly sought help from his relatives and even sent pictures of her injuries through a messaging application.
After the successful rescue operation, the victim was immediately rushed to the hospital for medical treatment.
Meanwhile, Brig. Gen. Roderick Augustus Alba, chief of PNP public information office, said they were continuously monitoring the condition of the victim after she was rescued by the cops.
"The suspect, actor Kit Thompson, has been arrested at inihahanda na po ang mga ebidensya for possible filing of charges (the pieces of evidence are being readied for the possible filing of charges)," Alba said.
"We condone any act of violence, especially against women. As we celebrate the Women’s Month, we couldn’t stress enough the inherent role of the PNP to protect the rights of every woman in society. We vow to conduct a full, fair and transparent investigation," he stated.
The Tagaytay police said that violation of Republic Act 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Children Act of 2004 will be imposed against Thompson "if evidence warrants" as investigators conduct a deeper probe on the incident.
