Negros Occidental governor declares support for Sotto’s vice presidential bid

BACOLOD CITY - Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson has expressed support to the vice presidential bid of Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III.

Lacson, a member of the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC), made the announcement on Monday, after the group announced in a meeting that they will support Sotto, who is the party’s chairman.

Lacson had earlier declared his support to the presidential bid of Vice President Leni Robredo, whose running mate is Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan.

Lacson said he already talked about the matter with Pangilinan, whose wife Sharon Cuneta, is a niece of Sotto, and that the couple, he said, understood the situation.

"The party is really pushing for the candidacy of Sotto," the governor said.

Lacson said he will also ask other NPC members in the province, particularly those who were absent during the meeting, to also support the candidacy of Sotto.

Robredo and Pangilinan were in the province on March 11 for their campaign sortie, along with the members of their team.
