DPWH roadside workers given insurance

Road maintenance workers of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-National Capital Region (NCR) are now entitled to a Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Membership Insurance.

DPWH Secretary Roger Mercado said the program will benefit a total of 1,482 roadside workers.

“This program was launched given that the nature of work of our roadside workers, Anti-Truck Overloading Mobile Enforcement (ATOME) personnel, and other maintenance crew entails constant hazards to safety,” said Mercado.

With this insurance, road maintenance workers are now entitled to accidental death, disablement, and dismemberment reimbursement up to P35,000.

The accidental medical reimbursement is up to P5,000 while the accidental burial reimbursement is up to P5,000. The daily hospital allowance of P150 per day is up to 60 days.

The DPWH said there are plans to expand the current membership to give more benefits to NCR maintenance workers, which include all personnel of the regional offices and the District Engineering Offices.
