Nadine Lustre returns to showbiz: 'Am past the love team phase'

After a three-year hiatus, Nadine Lustre makes a comeback via the dark movie 'Greed'' which is directed by Yam Laranas and will be shown on VivaMax Plus on March 16. The 28-year-old actress said her long absence allowed her the precious  chance to work on herself and carefully think about the direction of her career.

She revealed that fans and followers will see a new Nadine in 'Greed' as it is a thriller and horror film showing some gut-wrenching blood. "It's definitely a far cry from the drama and romantic comedies I did before."

Nadine is paired for the first time in the movie with young actor Diego Loyzaga but there is obviously no love angle between the two. Off camera, Nadine is now in a happy relationship with a French guy who owns a resort in Siargao that's why she is always there.

"Am already past the love team phase. Being in a team itself is not bad as it's a partnership. But feeling ko pag ganitong edad hindi na bagay ang loveteam eh. We'll see," declared the award-winning young actress who was once identified as the other half of the showbiz couple fondly called JaDine by fans . Nadine's ex, James Reid left the Philippines last month to try his luck at a music career in Los Angeles, USA.

Nadine showed off her dancing prowess in her last movie ''Índak''  which was shown in 2019. And now with ''Greed," she's happy to portray a character that wasn't anything like she did before.

"Gusto kong mag veer away muna sa mga love story. Am very adventurous. I like to explore and try out new things. I like to do out of the box films. In fact, my dream role is to play a psychopath. I would like to read scripts that are mind-boggling. Yung pag binasa mo mapapaisip ka," the actress declared.

She expressed confidence that her fans will accept her in her new characterizations. " I know that my fans love and support me. But am really doing this for myself. When I grow older, I want to look back and be proud of myself , not regretting anything  because I did the things I wanted to do."

"My advice to others is to not be afraid of change, or trying new things and exploring," she noted.

The second lesson Nadine imparted is for people to be brave enough to weather the ups and downs of life. "With all the things that I went through in the past four or five years, I learned that if you are facing a crossroad or a challenge, you really have to face it. Mahirap talaga ang buhay. You just have to brave it."

On facing the cameras again after three years for the shooting of Greed, Nadine revealed: "Feeling ko back to zero ang skills ko, talagang nanibago ako. Di ko na alam mag pose, di ko na alam mag smile."

Knowing her immense talents and charisma onscreen, we're pretty sure Nadine will be back in the groove of things quickly. We should expect to see a more intense side of her to the world after the deep introspection she went through during the pandemic. (Annalyn S. Jusay)
