From Rihanna and Madonna’s anthems to Harry Styles’ sweet music, here are the songs included in the series’ official playlist
Right before it was dethroned by Korean drama series “Squid Game,” romantic series “Bridgerton” was the talk of the town that it even put Regencycore in Collins Dictionary’s list of Top Words in 2021. While it is set in the early 1800s, the Shonda Rhimes show is made relevant to today’s times through its themes, and, well its music. Pop music becomes classic ballads to make scenes fly in the show. And according to streaming platform Netflix, we’ll be hearing more of it in the show’s sophomore season.
On March 4, Netflix revealed some of the songs that will be included in “Bridgerton” season 2. Among them are “Stay Away” by Nirvana, “Material Girl” by Madonna, “Diamonds” by Rihanna, Alanis Morisette’s “You Oughta Know,” Harry Styles’ “Sign of the Times,” and Pink’s “What About Us.”
“I chose all of these songs for very specific reasons. Each one is incredibly powerful and deeply emotional in its own special way,” showrunner Chris Van Dusen told Netflix’s Tudum. “I always try many different songs for any one scene before landing on the perfect one to use. This season, I couldn’t be more thrilled about our musical playlist.”
“It’s a good link for everyone to instantly recognize their own feelings in these characters that are in a very different environment than they are. But these songs that people know immediately help connect you even more to these characters,” the series’ music supervisor, Justin Kamps, said. “Obviously, they’re all dealing with feelings that everyone still deals with now. But I feel like that added level of the covers just helps bring people in even more and just gives it such a unique style for these dance sequences.”
