2 dead, 7 wounded in wedding reception shooting in Isabela


ISABELA -- A barangay councilor was killed while seven other guests were wounded when a lone gunman opened fire at a wedding reception in Sitio Flaviano, Barangay Dalena, in San Pablo, Isabela, last March 8, 2022.

Police are still investigating the shooting incident which resulted in the killing of Barangay Councilor Gerly Telan. The alleged gunman, a certain Marcelo, 23, from Barangay Bulo, Allacapan, Cagayan, was also shot dead.

The wounded included Barangay Chairman Briscio Gammaru, Isidro Mamauag, 26; Michael Mansibang, 38; Vicenta Guiquing, 53; Jose Mamauag, 69 ;Sofrino Crisologo, 37 and Allen Cauan. They are now recovering from their wounds at the Milagros Albano District Hospital (MADH).

Police investigators said that, at about 9 p.m., Tuesday, March 8, that guests were dancing at a wedding reception of a certain P/Corporal Pattalitan when Marcelo arrived and fired at Telan and Gammaru, who were then dancing.

The police added that Gammaru's companions were quick to retaliate, firing at Marcelo. But the exchange in gunfire resulted in the other guests being hurt in the crossfire.

Recovered from the scene of the attack were five fired cartridges of caliber .45 pistol; seven empty shells of caliber 9mm pistol and two fired slugs.

After the incident, two magazines for a caliber-.45 pistol were recovered, together with a cellphone and P4,200 in cash.

But investigators said no firearms were recovered during the incident.
