Muntinlupa tricycle group asks for P1 fare hike

A group of tricycle operators and drivers in Muntinlupa has asked the Muntinlupa City government to grant their request to increase the fare by P1 per person in light of the increase in gasoline prices in the country.

The Federation of Muntinlupa Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (FEDMUNTODA), the umbrella group representing different TODAs in the city, requested the city government’s Tricycle Regulatory Unit (TRU) and the Muntinlupa City Council through the Committee on Transportation to increase the base fare per person from the current P9 to P10.

Coun. Raul Corro, the City Council’s majority floor leader, said the TRU and the committee found the amount of increase “to be reasonable and shall recommend to SP approval.”

Oil companies in the country have increased the prices of gasoline, diesel and kerosene due to increase in price in world markets brought about by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

During a briefing on March 8, Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi said even before the conflict between Russia and Ukraine started, the price of oil has been increasing due to lack of supply in the world market.

Cusi said the budget for the Pantawid Pasada Program, a subsidy program for public utility drivers, will be increased from P2.5 billion to P5 billion.
