Hyun Bin, Son Ye-jin, Song Hye-kyo and more donate to forest fire relief funds in Korea


Korean star couple Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin, Song Hye-kyo and more have made donations for the victims of forest fires in South Korea.

The forest fires started on March 4 and has razed 21,772 hectares of woodland. The affected areas are Uljin in North Gyeongsang province with 16,913 hectares of woodland burned, and Donghae, Gangneung and Samcheok in Gangwon province, Yonhap News reported.

No casualties were reported but the forest fires damaged 570 facilities and homes, and 338 people in 220 households were displaced, the report added.

Korean celebrities have donated money to help those affected by the forest fires.

Star couple Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin, who are getting married this month, donated 200 million won ($162,000) for the victims of the forest fires, according to charity arm Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association chairperson Song Pil-ho.

Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association reported that as of 3 p.m. of March 8, it has raised 26.84 billion won ($21.75 million) from 530,895 donors for the victims of the forest fires.

The association announced on March 7 the following donations: Hyundai Motor Group, 5 billion won ($4 million), Samsung - 3 billion won ($2.4 million), Posco Group - 2 billion won ($1.6 million) and Shinhan Financial Group, Woori Financial Group, Hanwha Group and Hyundai Heavy Industries - 1 billion won ($810,458) each.

It said celebrities and other citizens have donated 3.63 billion won through Hope Bridge, Naver Happy Bean and Kakao.

Couple Kim Bong-jin and Sul Bomi of Woowa Brothers, a company that develops smartphone applications and operates Korea’s food delivery app Baedal Minjok (Baemin) donated 500 million won ($406,000).

Donating 100 million won each ($81,300) are figure skating Kim Yuna, actress Kim Hye-soo, actress Park Min-young, actor Song Kang-ho, actress Shin Min-ah, singer IU, actor Lee Byung-hun, actor Lee Je-hoon and actor Lee Jong-suk.

Donating 50 million won ($40,512) each are actress Kim Go-eun, actress Yoon Jeong-hee, short track speed skater and Olympic champion Choi Min-jeong and singer Hye-ri.

MC Mong donated 33.33 million won ($27,000) while volleyball player Jeong Ji-seok gave 30 million won $24321).

Yoo Byung-jae, Lee Dong-hwi, Lee Seung-yoon, and Lee Hye-young donated 10 million won ($8,115) each.

SM Entertainment and its founder Lee Soo-man donated 500 million won ($406,000) while JYP Entertainment gave 300 million won ($243,000).

“Squid Game” star Lee Jung-jae and actor Jung Woo-sung donated 100 million each ($81,300). Jay Park gave 50 million won and Kim Woo-bin donated 100 million won. Singer and actress Kim Se-jeong donated 10 million won.

Other donors include Kim Dong-wook (50 million), NCT’s Doyoung (30 million won), Yoo Jae-suk, Jun Hyun-moo, Song Hye-kyo, Yunho and Park Bo-young.

The association also announced there were 94 donations from BTS ARMY amounting to 7.74 million won ($6,280).
