Duterte names new MOLEO deputy Ombudsman

Office of the Ombudsman

President Duterte has appointed Assistant Ombudsman Jose Mercado Balmeo Jr. as deputy Ombudsman of the military and other law enforcement offices (MOLEO).

Balmeo’s appointment was transmitted to Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo, as ex-officio chair of the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC), by Executive Secretary Salvador C. Medialdea. The transmittal letter was received by Gesmundo last Tuesday, March 8.

Under his appointment, Balmeo will serve a seven-year term as MOLEO deputy Ombudsman.

He took over the post vacated on May 6, 2021 by then MOLEO Deputy Ombudsman Cyril E. Ramos.

MOLEO of the Office of the Ombudsman (OMB) handles complaints against members of the police, the military, and other law enforcement agencies.

The JBC is the constitutional office that accepts, screens, and nominates appointments to the judiciary, OMB, and other offices.
