Cebu City mayor says it's unfair to dig up past to pin down BBM

CEBU CITY—The mayor of this city vowed that his party will work hard to ensure the victory of the Uniteam tandem of Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Sara Duterte.

Mayor Michael Rama, head of the administration party Partido Barug, also defended Marcos from criticisms stemming from the Martial Law that his father declared.

“Who among us here who have not sinned? Let him who is without a sin cast the first stone,” Rama said during the inauguration of the Visayas Regional Headquarters of the BBM/Sara All Parallel Coordinating Center on Tuesday, March 8, at the North Reclamation Area here.

Rama, who is running for reelection in the May elections, said it is unfair to dig up old issues just to pin down Marcos.

“If there were mistakes in the past, it should not be brought to the present especially to the children, especially if the children’s only intention is to continue the good things that their parents have done,” Rama said.

Rama said he believes that the Marcos-Duterte tandem is what the country the needs.

“Why BBM-Sara? Why? Is there any other choice? We are coming up with a very good tandem. We are coming up with a cure if there’s any ill in the country. It is a tandem towards prosperity,” said Rama.

Rama admitted that Uniteam supporters are waiting for President Rodrigo Duterte’s endorsement.

While no endorsement has been given yet by the president, Rama said his party will put in the needed work to support Marcos and the Davao City Mayor.

“It (endorsement) will add up to the invincibility and formidability of the tandem but we cannot dictate on the president. We will continue to work hard to help the tandem and if the endorsement will not come, we will still continue to work hard,” Rama said.

Former Abakada Partylist Rep. Jonathan Dela Cruz, national adviser of BBM, said President Duterte’s endorsement is something that “we always hope and pray for.”

“The President will be leaving a good legacy and that is one of the many things that the Uniteam wants to be continued. Uniteam is the team that he can be proud of,” said Dela Cruz.

Also present during the inauguration were former Hilongos, Leyte Mayor Jose Emery “Joy” Roble, head of the BBM/Sara regional headquarters, and Davao City Councilor Danny Dayanghiyang, head of the national BBM/Sara national coordinating center.
Roble said that Marcos' strong showing in recent surveys is an indication that the issues hurled against Marcos are no longer effective.

“BBM and Sara are leading in surveys because a lot of people, including the youth, have woken up. Their minds cannot be poisoned anymore especially in the advent of social media where they can read what really happened in the Marcos regime,” said Roble.
