Andanar is acting Palace spokesman

President Duterte has named Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar as the new acting presidential spokesman.

Andanar’s appointment was confirmed in an advisory issued by Malacañang on Tuesday, March 8.

In a Facebook post, Andanar welcomed the position, stressing that it is an "honor to serve" Duterte in his final months in office.

"Old face, additional role. An honor to serve President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and be one of his last men standing," he said.

Andanar assumed the position after previous Cabinet secretary and acting spokesman Karlo Nograles was appointed as the new chairman of the Civil Service Commission (CSC).

President Duterte himself swore in Nograles in his new post on Monday night, March 7.

Nograles's appointment came a month following the retirement of Alicia dela Rosa-Bala as the previous CSC chairperson.

Andanar is set to hold his first press briefing as Palace spokesman on Tuesday with National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Undersecretary Rosemarie Edillon.

He was appointed as PCOO chief in 2016 when Duterte took office. Prior to his appointment, he served as a television news anchor and radio commentator.
