Stronger support needed for PH arts, culture--Legarda

Senatorial candidate and House Deputy Speaker Loren Legarda is seeking stronger support from the government and her countrymen as far as developing Filipino arts and culture is concerned.

This, as Legarda called on the government Saturday, March 5 to double its efforts to showcase Philippine art and culture through art fairs, exhibitions, and workshops.

She said that through such efforts, the awareness and enthusiasm of Filipinos will be enriched.

“I thank the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), as well as other government agencies, private and civil society organizations, for organizing events and activities that highlight the artistic brilliance of the Filipinos every February in line with the National Arts Month," said the Antique representative during the recent celebration of Arts Month.

"I hope we continue this even after the monthly celebration to provide space for our Filipino artists to showcase their skills and nurture future talents,” Legarda added.

The veteran lawmaker also said she wishes to continue to support the country’s indigenous groups "who have shown us traditional and indigenous arts and practices that form part of our culture and identity as a Filipino".

Legarda also encouraged Filipinos to promote Philippine arts and culture, like her, to further develop sense of identity and nationalism.
