Duterte appoints new LEB member

Legal Education Board

President Duterte has appointed lawyer Salex Espinosa Alibogha as member of the Legal Education Board (LEB) representing the Ranks of Active Law Practitioners.

Alibogha will serve his post until Jan. 14, 2025. He took over the post from Abelardo T. Domondon whose term ended on Jan. 13, 2020.

His appointment was received by Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo last Thursday, March 3, from Executive Secretary Salvador C. Medialdea.

The LEB is an independent government agency that regulates legal education in the country. It was created under Republic Act No. 7662, the Legal Education Act of 1993.

Under RA 7662, the LEB is composed of a chairperson, preferably a former justice of the Supreme Court or Court of Appeals. The other members are a representative of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP), a representative of the Philippine Association of Law Schools (PALS), a representative from the ranks of active law practitioners; and, a representative from the law students' sector.

The law also provides that the secretary of the Department of Education or his/her representative, should be an ex officio member of the board.
