Tech for good: PrimeWater set to build surface water treatment plant in Laguna

PrimeWater Infrastructure Corp. and Sta. Cruz Water District (SCWD) held a ceremonial groundbreaking ceremony as they marked the construction of PrimeWater’s first Surface Water Treatment Plant (SWTP) in South Luzon at Barangay Patimbao Sta. Cruz, Laguna.

The SWTP will primarily disinfect new water sources to ensure its potability for public use, expand water supply to far-flung areas, and increase water pressure and availability for the municipality of Sta. Cruz upon its target completion in 2024.

PrimeWater Sta Cruz and Sta Cruz Water District (SCWD) officials groundbreak the construction of the surface water treatment plant in Brgy Patimbao, Sta. Cruz, Laguna, that is seen to improve water supply and availability to their served areas upon completion.

Lerma E. Marcelo PhD., Sta. Cruz Water District’s General Manager considers the SWTP a milestone for the water district and their Joint Venture (JV) partnership with PrimeWater. “The SCWD board and management, with the help of our partner, PrimeWater, is pleased that the municipality of Sta. Cruz will be able to experience better water service through this project, something that our customers deserve to receive,” Marcelo said during her speech.

She also explained that one of the main reasons SCWD partnered with PrimeWater under the JV Agreement is constructing the surface water treatment plant, which will benefit households in their served areas upon its completion.

Based on the Philippine Water Supply and Sanitation Master Plan (PWSSMP) by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) in 2021, only 87.7 percent of the Filipino population have access to safe water in 2015 and 73.8 percent to basic sanitation, while 12.4 million Filipinos are limited to getting water from unsafe sources.

Engr. Romeo M. Sabater, PrimeWater’s Vice President, said the company will always adhere to its mission of providing potable and sustainable water for every Filipino family to support the country’s goal of balancing the water supply and demand.

Since their joint venture partnership with SCWD, PrimeWater has constructed a pumping station conducted various pipe replacements and pipelaying extension activities apart from the structure of the new Sta. Cruz SWTP.

“The start of this SWTP project reaffirms PrimeWater’s commitment, through the JV partnership with SCWD, to bring better water services for every home in Sta. Cruz,” Sabater ended.
