Rookie K-pop boy band Tempest’s debut album tops music charts


New K-pop boy band Tempest’s debut album took first place on two music charts in South Korea.

Tempest, composed of Lew, Hyungseop, Hanbin, Hyuk, Eunchan, Hwarang and Taerae, made their debut on March 2 with the album “It's Me, It's We” containing five songs including the carrier track “Bad News." Lew and Hwarang became songwriters for the album, writing the lyrics for all the songs.

According to Korea’s Hanteo Chart, Tempest’s “It's Me, It's We” grabbed first place on the daily physical album chart on March 2 with 34,106 copies sold.

“It's Me, It's We” also became No. 1 on Gaon Music Chart’s daily retail album chart for March 2 with 16,097 copies sold.

The music video for “Bad News” has garnered 2.62 million views on YouTube in 21 hours after it was released on March 2.

The group’s name, Tempest, was derived from the meaning of the word and described as "a group that will sweep the K-pop industry by storm with bright energy and powerful performances.”

Fans are already familiar with some of the members of Tempest. Hanbin participated in the TV show “I-Land,” which became the vehicle to launch boy band ENHYPEN.

Lew, aka Lee Eui-woong, and Hyungseop became contestants in the talent search show “Produce 101” season 2 in 2017. The show gave birth to boy band Wanna One.

The two also became known as the duo Hyeongseop x Euiwoong. The two went to Manila and performed on MBC Music’s TV program “Show Champion” in Manila held on Oct. 28, 2018 at the Mall of Asia Arena together with EXO, The Boyz, Weki Meki, MXM and Xeno-T.

Hwarang (real name: Song Jae-won) became a contestant on the K-pop survival show “Under Nineteen,” which aired in South Korea from November 2018 to February 2019.
