Hontiveros vows to continue fighting for women's rights amid COVID-19 pandemic, wars abroad
Senator Risa Hontiveros said that her campaign for the welfare of women would not slow down despite the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and the different conflicts overseas.

Hontiveros made the statement as the entire world celebrates Women's Month.
In a video message, Hontiveros, wishing Filipino women a happy women's month, said she would not stop fighting for women's rights in the country.
"Sa bigat ng ikatlong taon ng pandemya at kahit umiinit ang gyera sa iba’t ibang parte ng mundo, mas lalong hindi tayo magdadahan-dahan sa ating laban para sa mga kababaihan.
"Patuloy ang pagtatanod natin upang siguraduhin na ang ating mga anak na babae ay may parehong pagkakataon tulad ng mga anak nating lalake (We continue to fight to make sure that our daughters will have the equal opportunity as our sons)," she said.
"Patuloy ang pagbuo natin ng mas maginhawang kinabukasan para sa lahat (Our quest to build a comfortable future for everyone continues)," she added.
Hontiveros, who is seeking reelection, said her "Health Buhay, Hanapbuhay" advocacy is for all Filipino women working hard to fill in the society's shortcomings because of the pandemic.
She noted how everyone is making sacrifices for a better future-- from the women in the countryside, overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), women workers who are pushing for benefits and work safety, and members of the LGBT community fighting for equality.
Hontiveros said that as chairperson of the Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations, and Gender Equality, many challenges had been overcome. However, there is still a lot left to do.
She cited the need to give more opportunities to women to diminish their duties as the family's "primary caregiver."
"Katuwang ang mga LGUs, gawin nating mas abot-kamay para kay Juana ang mga programang pangkalusugan at mga social services (Together with the local government units, let us make health programs and social services more accessible to Juana)," she said.
In addition, the Senator said there is a need to strengthen programs to ensure that young girls are in school, including ensuring their safety in all settings, whether in public, at work, or online.
