Pasig LGU, Meralco, ASMPH sign MOA for medical scholarships

The Pasig City local government signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with One Meralco Foundation (OMF) and the Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health (ASMPH) for the grant of medical scholarship to aspiring medical students in the city on Tuesday, March 1.

The medical scholarship offers an opportunity for individuals to study medicine at the ASMPH, and is fully funded by the OMF, the corporate foundation and social development arm of the Manila Electric Company (Meralco).

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto signed the MOA at the Pasig City Hall along with representatives of OMF and ASMPH.

The scholarship will be granted to only five individuals.

Applicants for the scholarship will undergo a thorough selection process and evaluated based on their academic records and financial capability.

Through the scholarship, the individuals will complete a double degree in Doctor of Medicine and Master in Business Administration for five years.

The OMF will cover tuition fees, laptop and internet expenses, payments for books, and other miscellaneous fees. Other recurring fees will be shouldered by the local government.

The Pasig City government continues to offer its own scholars program that provides free tuition to eligible students who are residents of the city, to study in any public or private institution within or outside the city.

Around 20,000 students were given the scholarship in 2021. The city plans to increase the number of scholars to 30,000 by school year 2024-2025.
