Salgados powers Surigao to PH Chess League title

Lennon Hart Salgados powered the Surigao Diamond Portrait Knight Chess Team to capture the title in the Chess 960 (Fischer-Random Chess) Philippine Chess League Season 2-Episode 8 Team Battle held online over the weekend.

Salgados tallied 30 points to spearhead the squad to the crown.

Also contributing for the title were Julius Dan Augustine Ablin, who had 24 points, and team captain Atty. Cliburn Anthony Orbe, who chipped in with 22 points.

The team finished with 199 points, five points ahead of runner-up PFCC Chess Team (194). Zambo Chess Archos finished with 171 points for third place.

Also delivering for Surigao were Deo Sandro Ladion (20 points), John Janel Morazo (19), Cyrus Donasco (19), Wil Maghanoy (16), Alfredo Rapanot (16), Joselito Serna (15), Rodney Opada (12), Atty. Melzar Galicia (12), Francis Joseph Kaamino (11), Antonio Chavez Jr. (10) and playing-team owner Rey Urbiztondo (10).

Meanwhile, the Rising Phoenix Chess Team came in fourth with 166 points, followed by the San Miguel Chess Association Team with 164 points.

Rounding up the Top 10 finishers were the Costbursters Philippines Corp. Chess Team (162 points), SSS Chess Club (133), Bicol Chess Players' Advocates (119), Chessmis TV Chess Team (116) and Malolos City Chess Club (116).
