Negros Occidental governor confirms support for Robredo’s presidential bid

BACOLOD CITY -- Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson has declared his support for the candidacy of Vice President Leni Robredo for president in the May 2022 elections.

This was confirmed by Lacson in a media interview on Monday, Feb. 28.

“If people ask who I’m supporting or voting for, I confirmed it, that’s where I’m going right now,” Lacson said, citing the earlier announcement of San Carlos City Mayor Renato Gustilo that the governor is supporting Robredo.

When asked for his reason, Lacson said there’s no need to explain voting for any candidate as long as he/she trusts the person.

“I said before, when we face our ballot on May 9, there’s only one question that we should ask ourselves, who do we trust?,” the governor said.

With regards to the local chief executives who manifested their support to presidental aspirant Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Lacson said that he respects their decision.

Twenty-eight out of 31 mayors in the province have already expressed their support for the tandem of Marcos and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio during the UniTeam’s campaign sortie organized by Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer here last month.

“I don’t have to go through convincing them to change their mind,” Lacson said.

Robredo and her slate are expected to arrive here this month for a grand rally.

If invited, Lacson said he will join the vice president’s campaign rally.
