One of the major international beauty pageants has joined the world in condemning Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
The Miss Supranational beauty contest has announced on social media that it will not accept a contestant from Russia because "we cannot condone the actions of the Kremlin."
Now on its 13th year, the Miss Supranational pageant said Ukraine has been a very special part of the Supra family. The full statement:
STATEMENT FROM PRESIDENT OF THE MISS SUPRANATIONAL ORGANIZATION:
"Ukraine has been a very special part of the Supra Family since the beginning of our competition in 2009 when Oksana Moria won the very first title in Poland.
"The European Union, where many countries joined together to cooperate with one another, is an excellent example of supranationalism.
"Today, we are joining the EU, countries around the world, sports federations, cultural events and the people around the world who choose to stand up for freedom and unity.
"We will not accept a contestant from Russia, as we cannot condone the actions of the Kremlin."
Oksana Moria of Ukraine is the first winner of Miss Supranational pageant in 2009.
In the comments section, pageant fans were divided over the decision of Miss Supranational pageant. Some comments:
"Yes but no. I mean, what does a beauty pageant had to do with it? They are setting a dangerous precedent. The war going on is about fighting Russia imperialism. Some then would say, what about the USA imperialism?"
"But why?"
"What? Then why is USA competing in any pageant? They are always in war"
"I mean good intention, but the contestants are not responsible for what’s happening."
"Best decision."
"Miss Supranational didn't have national director in Russia for more than 5 years. So it's ok."
