Aspiring president Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. believes that the Philippine government shouldn't make any a stand on the Russia-Ukraine war since the country is "not involved".
Marcos Jr. told reporters in an ambush interview Tuesday night, March 1 in Pasay City that he is "worried more of our nationals" in the areas where there are fighting.
"Marami na raw napunta sa Poland (There are many people who have fled to Poland), but there are some who do not want to be repatriated. So that’s the problem for the Philippines now," he said.
Asked if the government should remain neutral on the issue, he said, "I don’t think there is a need to make a stand."
He added: "We are not involved, except for our nationals."
Marcos Jr.'s running mate, vice presidential candidate Sara Duterte-Carpio, initially said the government should remain neutral on the issue.
Duterte-Carpio said the Philippines must only take a stand if our "interest is at risk".
