BACOLOD CITY -- A deep-seated grudge triggered a son to hack his father to death during a drinking session in Sitio Fuentes, Barangay Mabini, Escalante City, Negros Occidental on Saturday, Feb. 26.
Police identified the victim as Mariano Aberina, 46, of Barangay Mabini.
Based on the investigation, the victim and the suspect, identified as Vickmar, 20, were having a drinking session, when a heated argument ensued between them.
The victim attempted to hack his son but the latter managed to evade and run towards the back of their house.
The suspect then took a sugarcane cutter at the house of his brother, and allegedly hacked his father, hitting him in the different parts of his face that led to his death, according to the police.
The following day, the suspect was turned over by barangay watchmen to the police, along with the weapon used.
Lt. Col. Rocky Desear, Escalante City police chief, said the victim, according to his son, has been physically hurting him, his siblings, and their mother whenever he was drunk. This prompted the suspect to commit the crime.
Desear said the suspect’s mother refused to pursue charges against him.
