Robredo goes barefoot after ‘happy’ debate experience; ‘Di na ako makalakad’

What’s harder than having to debate against your rivals for the presidency?

For Vice President Leni Robredo, another challenging part during CNN’s presidential debate on Sunday, Feb. 27, was to wear and stand on heels for three hours.

Robredo shared in a Facebook post that she isn’t used to wearing heels anymore. On Twitter, she even shared a photo of her walking backstage without shoes after the debate.

“Masaya ‘yung kagabi pero di na ako sanay magsapatos. Di na ako m(a)kalakad after 3 hours na nakatayo (Last night was fun but I am not used to wearing shoes anymore. I cannot walk after standing for three hours),” she said.

On Twitter, she quipped, “ True leadership is stepping up and showing up... even if it means standing in heels for 3 hours.”

The aspiring president also posted screenshots of her notes from last night’s debate.

“The challenge is always how to encapsulate all you need to say in the 1.5 minutes given to you. Good thing the organizers gave us a pen and some sheets of paper. Very useful in organizing my thoughts. Some of them I wasn’t able to use because they were not asked. Was just trying to anticipate some of the questions,” she said.

Whenever she was called first to answer, she wasn't able to write down notes anymore because there was no time for it.

Robredo attended the presidential debate with former presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella, labor leader Ka Leody de Guzman, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, former Defense chief Norberto Gonzales, Senator Panfilo Lacson, businessman Faisal Mangondato, Dr. Jose Montemayor Jr., and Senator Manny Pacquiao.

Visibly absent, though, was presidential preference survey frontrunner former Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr. CNN left an empty podium and seat for him on the stage.
