Olympians Diaz, Marcial lead honorees on Zamboanga City’s 85th Charter Day


ZAMBOANGA CITY- Filipino Olympians Hidilyn Diaz and Eumir Felix Marcial were awarded as local achievers during a program to commemorate Zamboanga City’s 85th Charter Day on Saturday, February 26.

The two athletes joined Zamboangueño lawyer Antonio Kho Jr, former Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner and newly appointed Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, and 10 other prominent personalities and entities awarded for bringing honor to Zamboanga city through accomplishments in their respective fields.

Newly-installed Philippine Marine Commandant Maj. Gen. Nestor Herico graced the program as guest of honor.

Herico is the first Zamboangueño to occupy the highest position in the Philippine Marines.

The local government of Zamboanga also lined up a series of events which will be held virtually in line with this year’s commemorative celebration.

Among the activities were the Chavacano Food Vlog competition, Mobile Legends Hermosa League Season 3, World of Dance Challenge, Inter-SK I Love ZC Project Competition, and the Zamboanga HipHop Dance Competition.

Zamboanga city’s Charter Day marks the installation of the first set of appointed city officials led by Mayor Nicasio Valderroza on February 26, 1937.
