New SC Justice Kho takes oath; assumes post


New SC Associate Justice Antonio T. Kho Jr. takes his oath of office before Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo

Newly appointed Supreme Court (SC) Associate Justice Antonio T. Kho Jr. assumed his post after taking his oath of office before Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo on Thursday morning, Feb. 24.

With his assumption to office, Justice Kho completed the membership in the SC which is composed of 15 justices sitting as a full court or spread into three divisions of five justices each.

Kho is expected to be assigned to the SC’s third division. He filled up the post vacated last Jan. 9 when Associate Justice Rosmari D. Carandang retired.

Kho’s oath-taking at the SC’s session hall was witnessed by his wife, Wilma, and children -- Antonio III, Audrey Louise, and Ingrid Francesca.

Also present during the ceremony were SC Associate Justices Amy C. Lazaro Javier, Jhosep Y. Lopez, Japar B. Dimaampao, and Jose Midas P. Marquez.

Justice Kho retired last Feb. 2 as commissioner of the Commission on Elections.

Before his Comelec post, he was a former undersecretary of the Department of Justice and law professor at the Arellano Law School, San Beda University, and De La Salle University College of Law.

He finished his law degree at the San Beda University Law School. He garnered 10th place in the 1991 bar examinations.
