BACOLOD CITY - A fire hit a residential area in Sitio Dakuta Dako, Barangay Mambulac, Silay City, Negros Occidental, gutted 31 houses, and displaced 191 persons on Tuesday, Feb. 22.
Of the total number of houses, 29 were totally damaged while two others werepartially damaged, according to Inspector Rufino Tañedo, Silay City fire marshal.
Tañedo said the fire broke out at around 12:25 p.m. and immediately spread to several houses which are mostly made of light materials.
Because the area was congested, firefighters cordoned off both sides to prevent the fire from affecting other houses, Tañedo said.
Tañedo said the blaze was initially triggered by electrical causes. No injuries were reported.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Silay reported an estimated P500,000 damage to property.
Fire out was declared around 1:56 p.m.
The local government reported that 191 persons were affected.
Mayor Mark Golez said the city government will extend financial assistance to the fire victims who are temporarily sheltered at Mambulac Elementary School.
