Alex Eala and French partner Alice Robbe yielded to their quarterfinal opponents Tuesday in the W25 Macon tournament in France.
Eala and Robbe, who earned an opening-round bye, succumbed to third seed Audrey Albie and Aubane Droguet of France, 6-4, 6-2, in the $25,000 tournament.
Despite the defeat, Eala is still in contention in the singles event where she is scheduled to face Russian Anna Ukolova in the first round.
The 16-year-old Filipino junior player had to go through the qualifiers to make it to the main draw, where she trounced local bets Helena Stevic, 6-0, 7-5, and Ines Nicault, 6-4, 6-3.
This is Eala’s fourth tournament in the women’s circuit this year. She was coming off a second-run finish at the W60 Grenoble in France two weeks ago after also undergoing two qualifying matches.
