DPWH fast tracks construction of NLEX-SLEX connector project

A travel time of 20 minutes between NLEX and SLEX?

That is what the ongoing eight-kilometer NLEX-SLEX (North Luzon Expressway- South Luzon Expressway) Connector Road Project will do soon.

On Tuesday, Feb. 22, officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and NLEX Corporation inspected the project in Manila which will extend the NLEX Southward bound from Segment 10 to Skyway Stage 3.

Section 1, which is the 5.15-kilometer segment from C3, Caloocan to España in Manila, is now 64.5 percent complete while the 2.75-kilometer Section 2 from to PUP Sta. Mesa in Manila is now 3.1 percent complete.

DPWH Senior Undersecretary Rafael C. Yabut visited the on-going construction of the second section of NLEX Connector located in España, Manila.

Yabut said that based on the MNTC report, the project, which will serve as the first connector toll road for all vehicles including heavy trucks, is now almost halfway-finished with 45 percent of civil works completed.

When completed, the elevated road will reduce travel time from SLEX to NLEX to just 20 minutes and it is expected to benefit at least 35,000 motorists and vehicles per day.

Also, by using the four-lane toll road, the travel time from Clark to Calamba will be reduced from approximately 3 hours to 1 hour and 40 minutes.

The construction of the NLEX-SLEX Connector Road Project, which costs P23.2 billion, started in May 2019. It is expected to be opened by the third quarter of 2023.
