Those who died were aged 10 years old and younger, coming from six barangays.

The deaths were from the barangays of Bolong, Mercedes, Tictapul, Tetuan, Sinunuc, and two from Camino Nuevo.

Zamboanga City Health Officer Dr. Dulce Miravite reminded residents to practice the 4-S strategy to avoid a further increase in dengue cases.

“Ta mira kita ulan-ulan ya tamen, (We see that rains are becoming frequent) so let us observe the 4-S,” said Miravite during a virtual press briefing on Monday, February 21.

The 4-S strategy involves a four step plan to eradicate the Aedes Aegypti Mosquito from its breeding places.  The strategy includes searching and destroying breeding sites, seeking early consultation, self-protection, and fogging activities where incidents are high.

Miravite also encouraged residents to report dengue cases to barangay officials for appropriate action.
