Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles made the announcement on Friday, February 18.

In his press briefing, Nograles said Duterte signed Justol's appointment paper on February 17.

He congratulated Justol on her appointment and assured her of the government's cooperation and support to COA's mandate.

"Malacañang expresses its sincerest congratulations to Rizalina Noval Justol on her appointment as chairperson of the Commission on Audit," Nograles said.

"We wish Chairperson Justol success in COA and assure her that the government will always be supportive of COA's efforts to ensure transparency and accountability in the use of government funds," he added.

Before her appointment to the COA, Justol served as the Deputy Executive Secretary for Finance and Administration at the Office of the President.

She replaced Michael Aguinaldo as the COA chairperson. Aguinaldo, who retired early this month, was appointed by then President Benigno S. Aquino III in 2015.

The COA chairperson and commissioners are appointed by the President with the consent of the Commission on Appointments for a term of seven years without reappointment.
