Mayor Isko to retire from politics if he fails to win the presidency

Presidential candidate and Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso on Wednesday, Feb. 16, said he will retire from politics and spend more time with his family should he fail to win in the upcoming May elections.

“Well, I already committed myself, I will retire. Di ba I made a commitment, we were in Bulacan. I said that. After this, panatag na ko. Eh di babawi na ko sa pamilya ko (I’ll be at peace. I will make it up to my family),” Domagoso said during his visit to Los Banos, Laguna.

“I think malaki ang utang ko sa pamilya ko, sa mga anak ko. Kasi ang ginawa kong pamilya eh yung taong-bayan (I owe a lot to my family, to my children. Because the people have become my family) Most of my time was dedicated to public service. But, panatag naman ako, salamat sa Diyos, maayos naman ang pamilya ko at nakakapamuhay naman ng kumportable (I am at peace, thank God, my family is fine and they live comfortably),” he added.

Domagoso's political career started in 1998 where he was elected as a city councilor of Manila. After serving three terms, he was elected vice mayor in 2007.  

In 2016, he decided to run for the Senate but lost. He was appointed by President Duterte as chairman of the North Luzon Railways Corporation.

In 2019, Domagoso was elected as Manila mayor.

Domagoso officially announced his bid for the presidency in the 2022 national elections last Sept. 22.

He filed his certificate of candidacy on Oct. 6, 2021.
