More than 97 percent of applicants renewing their driver’s license used the free online portal for the Comprehensive Driver’s Education (CDE) program and examinations, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) disclosed on Thursday, Feb. 17.
“From Nov. 3 last year till Jan. 31, the LTO renewed the driver’s licenses of 341,005 applicants, a total of 331,440 them or 97.19 percent availed of the free CDE program training modules and exam from the Land Transportation Management System (LTMS),” LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Edgar C. Galvante said.
He added that a few applicants enrolled in private driving schools for the face-to-face CDE seminars. In LTO National Capital Region, out of 185,231 licenses renewers, only 61 individuals took the CDE seminars at LTO-accredited private driving schools.
Under the Republic Act (RA) 10930, the CDE refresher course and exam is required for all renewing driver’s license holders, for it extends the validity of licenses up to ten years.
Galvante stressed that the agency could solely administer the CDE validation exam through the LTMS online portal or at the LTO Driver’s Education Centers (DECs), which offer free face-to-face training.
He said free LTMS training modules and validation exams are accessible at the LTMS online portal through portal@lto.gov.ph.
