DPWH improves coastal bay walk in Ilocos Sur

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has improved the 2.2-kilometer bay walk in Candon, Ilocos Sur to provide local residents and tourists a goof place for physical activities.

The Candon-Santiago-San Esteban-Sta. Maria Coastal Road in Candon has a 700 lineal-meter access road at Barangay Darapidap. The road is expected to promote better access and easier transportation to residents of Santiago Cove.

DPWH Region 1 Director Ronnel M. Tan made the report to DPWH Secretary Roger G. Mercado on the completion of the project.

Aside from the bay walk, the department also constructed a bicycle lane with drainage, which can now be used for outdoor activities such as biking, jogging, and brisk walking.

“This project is motivated by the need for a safe and spacious area. Locals can safely participate in recreational activities while coping with the economic and social disruption caused by the pandemic,” said Mercado.

The southern part of the bay walk is also being developed as a coastal park aimed at providing a place where children and families can spend time reconnecting with nature.
