BACOLOD CITY — More than 1,200 bikers here and in Negros Occidental joined the Tibay at Husay Bike Fest 2022 organized by supporters of presidential candidate, Vice President Leni Robredo at the Panaad Park and Stadium here on Saturday.
According to Atty. Pinky Ocampo, spokesperson of Laban Leni Negros Occidental, they initially had over 800 early registrants but hundreds more signed up on the day of the event.
The bikers took-off from Panaad at 7 a.m. going through Barangays Handumanan, Cabug, Abuanan, and Sum-ag, then to Alijis road and back to Panaad.
With such overwhelming number of participants, Ocampo said the event was “very successful.”
Rodel Henares Concha, one of the organizers said he had “goosebumps,” with the overflowing number of bikers.
“Grabe, there were just so many bikers for Leni and they came in as individuals, group of friends, and families – young and old,” Concha said, adding that it was very heartwarming to see that many in the city and province are for (VP) Leni Robredo.
Concha said that while there is much work to be done, they remain hopeful that many can see the goodness in Robredo and why she merits to be the next president.
Meanwhile, 18-year-old John Rey Pendoy of Bago City won the major prize - a new bike. He woke up at 3 a.m. to start biking from his residence all the way to Panaad, despite sleeping late the past few nights because of his exams.
In his Facebook post, Pendoy thanked the organizers as well as some of his friends who contributed P100 for his bus fare going home since he now has to bring two bikes home.
Aside from the bike run, Zumba was also held for enthusiasts while the bikers were treated to Leni Lugaw upon their return.
