NPA attack vs cops in Negros condemned

ILOILO CITY — The attack staged by New People’s Army (NPA) rebels that injured two policemen and a civilian in Binalbagan town, Negros Occidental province Sunday has been condemned.

“They have the intention to kill our personnel who are lawfully performing their mandated duties,” said Police Brigadier General Flynn Dongbo, director of Police Regional Office (PRO-6).

To recall, the Binalbagan PNP led by Police Lieutenant Charles Richard Casalan were onboard the patrol vehicle when an explosion occurred and gunfire ensued.

The incident caused injuries to Casalan, Police Corporal Tranquillero and another civilian.

“This most recent incident of senseless violence is a testament to the barbaric and anti-people policy aimed at sowing fear and terror among our people in the communities by the NPA and its political arm of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP),” said the Western Visayas Regional Task Force-End Local Communist Armed Conflict (Western Visayas RTF-ELCAC).

“These acts of violence are proof that the CPP-NPA has lost the support of the people in the countryside and merely shows that they are desperate for attention,” the Western Visayas RTF-ELCAC added.

“The NPA rebels disturbed the peace of the place and the whole community of Barangay Bi-oa by unleashing their evil and unlawful intentions. We will conduct thorough investigation on this incident, find evidence to support an airtight case that we will be filing and run after them”, Dongbo noted.

The Binalbagan cops were on their way to investigate a dead body that was allegedly found in Barangay Biao.
