K-pop star Suho writes letter to fans upon completing military service: ‘We are one EXO’

Suho, 30, leader of K-pop boy band EXO, has been discharged from the military on Feb. 13 and told fans that he missed them the most.

“Finally, as of today, February 14, 2022, I have been discharged! First of all, I want to tell you that I miss EXO-L the most. I spent a bit away from you during my service, but thanks to you, it was a meaningful time to think more about EXO-L,” he said in a letter he posted on Instagram upon his discharge.

Suho enlisted in the military on May 14, 2020, and served for one year and nine months as a public service worker. Before his enlistment, he released his debut solo album “Self-Portrait” on March 30, 2020.

He is the third member of EXO, which debuted in 2012, to complete military service after Xiumin and D.O. Currently, EXO members Chen, Chanyeol and Baekhyun are fulfilling their military service.

In his letter to fans, Suho said, “During the period of one year and nine months, I wanted to see you and the members so much that I even held a concert in my dreams...haha I must have wanted to get over this time and meet you on stage as soon as possible.”

“Still, because there were times like this, I wonder if the waiting time deepened our hearts as I said, ‘If even waiting is enjoyable, it is love.’ But let's not fall apart again!” he said.

He added, “If I could hug you, I wouldn't let you go. I'm preparing a gift for EXO-L from this moment on. I hope it's a gift that makes waiting for me worthwhile. Since we haven't seen each other for a while, let's see each other more often. We are one EXO! Let's love! P.S. I miss your silver light.”

As a public service worker, Suho served at the Seocho District Office in Seoul.

"Suho worked really hard," said one official of the district office's Safe City Division, according to Korean media outlet Dispatch.

The report said Suho served at a children's center in Gangnam where he did tasks such as child care, facility management and cleaning.

The Seocho District Office said, "Suho hardly used sick leave." Suho was quoted as saying, "It makes me feel uncomfortable to be away because the children like me."

In November last year, Suho also received commendation as an exemplary public service worker.
