ARINGAY, La Union — The completion and opening of a 2.98-kilometer farm-to-market road in Barangay Gallano in this town is now benefiting farmers in the community and in the neighboring barangays.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Department of Public Works and Highways Ilocos Region information officer Esperanza Tinaza said farmers can now easily transport and deliver their farm produce to market centers.

“Farmers are greatly benefited with the significant decrease in transportation cost and time when going to Aringay town proper as travel time was reduced from one hour and 20 minutes to 45 minutes,” she said.
Tinaza said even the commuting time of residents of Barangay Gallano has also improved as the farm-to-market now facilitates safer access to health, education, and other government services.
“These basic social services can also be delivered faster now to the remote areas of the community,” she added.
The DPWH La Union Second District Engineering Office is implementing the farm-to-market road project costing over P11.9 million funded under the Department of Agriculture budget in 2020.
