Salceda backs VP Leni for president, Sara for vice president

Partido ng Demokratikong Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) member and Albay 2nd district Rep. Joey Salceda has endorsed a Vice President Leni Robredo and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte tandem on Thursday, Feb. 10.

“I am for Leni and Sara,” said Salceda.

Salceda, who previously endorsed presidential candidate Robredo on Wednesday, Feb. 9, announced in a statement sent to reporters that he is also in favor of vice presidential candidate Duterte.

“I have long followed and studied their track record in public service, especially good governance and management style. Both VP Leni and Mayor Sara are known for judicious and effective use of public resources in the offices and agencies they presided over.,” said Salceda in his statement on February 10.

Salceda, who said on Feb. 9 that Robredo would be “good for our economy” and “has no vested interests to protect” further expounded that Robredo and Duterte-Carpio both have similar economic development goals.

He also previously said that he thought Duterte-Carpio “would make a good president.”

“Both being long-time friends of mine, I have also studied their plans for the people, for our nation-state, and for the future. Their visions actually cohere significantly, especially in economic development,” he explained.

“Meanwhile, my party, PDP-Laban, has endorsed Mayor Sara (for vice president), but has not announced its support for any presidential candidate. Hence, we party members are free to choose according to our own judgment and conviction. Based on my conversations with many political leaders, Albay officialdom, including members of my party, is hugely Leni-Sara,” Salceda concluded.

Robredo is running for president in the upcoming May 2022 polls together with Sen. Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan, as her running mate. Duterte-Carpio, on the other hand, is seeking a vice presidential post with former senator and presidential candidate Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos.
