ILOILO CITY — The new Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) of Iloilo City is valid until 2029.
Mayor Jerry Treñas is hopeful that the updated CLUP can spur new developments in Iloilo City, the regional capital of Western Visayas, for the next seven years.

The updated CLUP, which was finalized in 2021, also looks into boosting redevelopment after there was an adverse impact due to the COVID-19 pandemic that started in 2020.
“There’s a need for additional economic activities towards recovery,” said Treñas.
Jose Roni Peñalosa, chief of the Iloilo City Planning and Development Office, said the new CLUP is mostly beneficial for the business sector.
“CLUP acts as a guide for investors in the selection of their project sites. As you know, location is very critical on their business operations such as to market availability,” Peñalosa explained.
The updated CLUP also takes into consideration disaster risk-reduction.
“In that way, we can say CLUP has the resilience set if we will undergo risk and how we stand up, recover and build back better,” added Peñalosa.
The new CLUP is now formal after the Iloilo City Council adopted it in a resolution while it had also been endorsed by the Regional Land Use Committee (RLUC-6) led by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA-6).
