Senate bet Baguilat wears 'bahag' in Naga rally to highlight his platform
NAGA CITY, Camarines Sur—Former Ifugao Rep. Teddy Baguilat Jr. took the stage clad in traditional Ifugao attire of “bahag” or loincloth on Monday, Feb. 8, the start of the official campaign period for the May polls.

Addressing the crowd of estimated 15,000 people in Plaza Quezon, the “Katutubo sa Senado” explained the meaning of his attire.
He said the headdress, a piece of cloth tied around his forehead, symbolizes the wisdom of the elderly in the tribes while the Ifugao blanket draped across his chest meant “courage to fight for one’s rights.”
His bahag, a piece of cloth that covers the private parts, represents the hardworking tribal farmers, Baguilat added.
If he wins a seat in the Senate, the former lawmaker stressed he will carry with him Robredo’s “environmental agenda.”
Baguilat joined the campaign kickoff of Vice President Leni Robredo and her running mate Senator Kiko Pangilinan that started as early as 7:30 a.m. from the Angat Buhay Village in the town of Lupi, a relocation site for families who lost their homes in typhoons that hit Camarines Sur in 2020.
From Lupi, he made pit stops in the towns of Libmanan and Tigaon, Iriga City, and finally, Naga City, where he was seen wearing a traditional Ifugao attire.
Apart from being a known environmentalist, he also champions indigenous people’s rights and pushes for good governance.
Baguilat wore the bahag to symbolize that Robredo’s team has no hidden issues of corruption.
“Ako po ay nag-bahag para idiin ang ipinaglalaban ni Leni Robredo para sa good governance (I wear the bahag to stress the good governance that Leni Robredo stands for),” he said.
