Duterte says he will move out of Malacañang even before his term ends

President Duterte said that he is already taking his belongings out of the Palace and preparing to move out of Malacañang by March, months before the official end of his term.

"Nag-iimpake na po ako... I should be out by March. Hindi ko na paabutin ng Abril (I'm already packing my things. I should be out by March. I will not extend my stay until April)," Duterte said in his Talk to the People program on Monday night, Feb. 7.

The President said he will not be sleeping in the Palace anymore and will only visit there to work.

"Hindi na ako matutulog rin dito... Magpunta na lang ako dito for a day-to-day trabaho (I will not be sleeping here anymore either. I will just visit for my day-to-day work) and what’s left of the things that we have to work on," he added.

Duterte also mentioned that he had already shipped some of his belongings, adding that he is looking forward to the day his term ends and the feeling of being an "outgoing president."

"Paglabas ko diyan sa front gate, wala ng... Ang sundalo mag-salute ‘yan sa iyo ‘pag nasa presidente ka pa. Paglabas ko diyan, ‘pag turnover natin dito, ibigay ko na sa bagong presidente, ang mga sundalo hindi na mag-salute (The soldier will salute you when you are the president. On the day of the turnover, when I go out there, the soldiers will no longer salute)," he said.

"They are not required to execute a salute because you are nobody. That’s how it is in our practice, in our government, in our democracy," he added.

Duterte said he would also invite the incoming president for a "tête-à-tête" before he would officially leave the Palace on June 30 -- the official end of his term and the start of the new president's term.
