Yellow bins, bags to be installed in all PUVs to manage health care waste- DENR

Yellow bins and bags will be installed in all public utility vehicles nationwide as the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) vowed to be aggressive in managing health care waste.

DENR Sec. Roy A. Cimatu said they already partnered with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) in to ensure that such move will be complied in all public utility vehicles nationwide.

"Yellow bins and bags will make it convenient for commuters to dispose of their used face masks, so these are not mixed with other trash," said Cimatu.

He added that the move is in compliance with the National Solid Waste Management Commission (NSWMC) resolution issued last year to prevent the further spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and encourage commuters to segregate and dispose of their potentially contaminated masks properly.

Cimatu also ordered the strict monitoring of health care wastes from international aircraft and cruise ships which are also potential sources of the virus.

He said the NSWMC resolution is a significant move to manage COVID-related health care wastes properly.
