BACOLOD CITY – The family of a 58-year-old woman in Hinigaran, Negros Occidental, is seeking justice after their relative was allegedly hurt by some residents after she was mistaken for an "aswang."
“Justice ang aming hinihiling sa hindi makataong ginawa sa aming kamag-anak,” Darryl Romano said in a Facebook post.
In a video shared by Romano on Facebook, the 58-year-old woman, whose name was withheld, can be seen tied with a rope, while some residents were allegedly poking fun at her.
The victim was discovered on the roof of one of the houses in Barangay Gargato around 1 a.m. on Feb. 3.
However, Police Capt. Ryan Villasario, Hinigaran town police chief, said they did not know how the victim was able to reach the roof.
Villasario said they learned about the incident through a Facebook post.
Villasario said some residents took the victim down from the roof after they heard a cracking sound, mistaken her as an “aswang” or a thief. Then they tied her with a rope.
He said the victim was also allegedly hacked and hit with an arrow, but upon checking, she had no serious injuries from hacking.
Villasario said there’s no confirmation on the allegations against her, but her family told the police that she is suffering from depression a er the death of her husband.
He said they are waiting for the decision of the victim’s family on the filing of charges.
